Nestled amidst attractive gardens in the beautiful Wirral countryside, this 19th-century mansion is the only hotel in the region to have been awarded 3 AA Rosettes for its fine food. It offers a spa with an extensive treatment menu, and Chester and Liverpool are just 15 minutes' drive away.

With 3 AA Rosettes for fine dining, our restaurant offers a menu for lunch and dinner of superb international cuisine, and we have an extensive selection of wines from around the world to accompany.

This beautifully styled room is the ideal venue for any special occasion or just a treat! Come along and have a look around our lounge is open from 11am until 11pm for non-residents.

Our Executive Chef, David Gillmore, has a background working in of some of the most exclusive venues in the country. He brings his experience to Thornton Hall and has created a selection of fantastic menus suited to all occasions, together with the ambience of Lawns, an unparalelled dining experience is created.

Olivier Gamory, our Restaurant Manager, and his team will ensure that from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave, you and your guests will receive the very best in service and advice on how to enhance your dining experience.

The Lawns Lounge
The main hotel lounge, serves food and beverages throughout the day, sit and relax whilst taking in the views over our gardens and the countryside. Try a cocktail or two, or enjoy a traditional Afternoon Tea in comfort. Food served until 23:00.

Area information

The historic city of Chester is only 13 miles away, and Liverpool is 20 minutes away by car. The hotel has excellent motorway links and is just 5 minutes away from junction 4 of the M53.

Travel information

By Car:
From the M53:
- Exit at junction 4.
- Join the B5151, signposted Willaston/Neston.
- Continue for approximately half a mile.
- Turn right onto the B5136, signposted for Thornton Hough/Neston.
- Continue through Thornton Hough Village.
- You will find the hotel on the left-hand side.

From the M6:
- Exit at junction 20.
- Join the M56.
- Exit at junction 15.
- Join the M53, making sure that you follow the Ellesmere Port/Birkenhead signs.
- Then, as above.

From Manchester Airport:
- Join the M56 at junction 5, signposted North Wales/Chester.
- Then, follow directions as from the M53.

From Liverpool:
- Take the Kingsway Tunnel onto the M53.
- Take junction 4 and follow directions as from the M53.

From Chester:
- Take the A540 to Heswall.
- Follow this road for approximately 10 miles.
- Turn right onto the B5136, signposted Thornton Hough.
- Follow this road for approximately one mile and you will find the hotel on the right.
